Battlefield acupuncture is a new auricular acupuncture technique known for fast pain relief. It was developed by the US military to treat their personnel. It uses tiny needles that barely penetrate the skin of a patient’s ear. Research has shown that auricular acupuncture provides pain relief by stimulating nerves which leads to the release of pain killing endorphins and changes the processing of pain in the brain and spinal cord. Pain relief is usually almost instant and can last from a few hours to days and in some cases even longer.
Battlefield acupuncture uses five acupuncture points on the ear that can deliver a significant decrease in pain almost immediately. The ease of access to auricular acupuncture points means that treatment can be administered quickly and without the need for the patient to lie down on an acupuncture bed.
